Fat Bikes

Fat bikes are mountain bikes with extra-wide tires. The tires are up to 12 cm (almost 5 in) wide and run at very low pressure (about 1 bar / 15 psi). They not only let you ride through deep snow (or deep mud), they also give you a very comfortable, cushioned ride! (Almost) nothing can stop these bikes!

Fat bikes are already hugely popular in America, and in Alaska life without them is unthinkable. Whether locals commuting to work or extreme athletes on 500 km (300-mile) deep-snow marathons – they're used everywhere. Most models get by without extra suspension, because the fat tires already absorb bumps really well. You truly feel like you're gliding gently over everything. The ride is a bit more sluggish than on a regular mountain bike, but everything feels much softer and more comfortable. You absolutely have to try one!
