  1. No Time to Get Bored

I'm currently planning a photo shoot at the remote Tolovana Hot Springs. We'll be hauling everything for a shoot of a "luxury dinner in the wilderness" out there by dog sled and snowmobile.

We got the unique chance to organize a shoot like this with the highly respected photographer "Katie Orlinsky", to capture in a few pictures what murkl.com does best: making dreams come true!

As you can imagine, a trip like this takes quite a bit of logistical planning... And today, just after I'd run all my errands and loaded up the snowmobile and a huge freight sled, my starter died. The car simply wouldn't start anymore! At minus 35°C (-31°F) you don't stand around thinking for long.... Thank goodness I was parked on a small road pretty much in the middle of the woods. So there were plenty of trees and a little slope. With a tow rope, a ratchet strap and a come-along, I was able to pull the car up the hill bit by bit (from tree to tree, basically), then let it roll back down and bump-start it. After about 3 hours of work, that actually worked great!

The only depressing part of the story: just as I almost had the car at the top, another car came by. Not only could he have pulled me up there in 5 minutes when it took me 3 hours. No, he then also told me that in Fairbanks there's a Facebook group for exactly this kind of situation: "Fairbanks Im stuck pull me out"!!!!

Afterwards I took a look at the group. And sure enough, people post there all the time when they're stuck somewhere, and you can watch others reply within minutes – on average, people get pulled out in less than half an hour!!!!

Something like that really only works here in Alaska!
