Description

Idyllic and ready for any natural spectacle: the Iniakuk Lake Wilderness Lodge in the Brooks Range!

The ski plane lands in almost a meter (3 ft) of fresh snow 100 kilometers (60 mi) north of the Arctic Circle. The runway is marked with spruce boughs and lies on a frozen lake. The plane glides on its skis right up to the front door of the Iniakuk Lake Wilderness Lodge. It's spring in the Brooks Range: the snow is powdery and dry, temperatures hover around freezing, and there are already 14 to 16 hours of daylight.

On Iniakuk Lake, at the edge of the Arctic national park, the Iniakuk Lodge offers great comfort and a wonderfully cozy base for real Alaska adventures. The cooking will make you think you're in paradise. Even the morning view from the bedrooms is a dream – and in the evening it's outdone by the "Aurora Borealis", the northern lights in all their shapes and plays of color! You can observe them particularly well here because the nearest major light source is several hundred kilometers away and the Iniakuk Lodge lies so far north. Even without the northern lights, which unfortunately don't appear every day, the starry sky here is breathtaking. During the day you can enjoy the solitude in the sun, meditate, watch passing caribou herds … The luxury at the Iniakuk Lodge is something very special – and at the same time it's an amazing experience to feel so small and insignificant in the vastness of the surrounding nature.

Besides "lazy indulgence", Iniakuk Lake offers plenty of ways to live out your sporty dreams and get to know nature better. On partly groomed trails you can go stalking with your camera, snowshoe, cross-country ski, romp around on a snowmobile or try your first run on a dog sled. Fatbikes (mountain bikes with big, balloon-like tires) are also available – only gold panning isn't possible at this time of year; otherwise, every option is open to you.

The Iniakuk Lodge also has four smaller log cabins at distances between seven and 60 kilometers (4 and 37 mi). So you can also do multi-day trips and find comfortable accommodation along the way. Night dog sled rides are very popular here too. Every vacation is tailored individually and can be shorter or longer than recommended in this offer. That's why there's no itinerary set by the guide – what counts are the wishes of the guests, who are treated and pampered like friends here. Just get in touch with our guide, John Gaedeke, or with us at murkl.com. Together we'll make your ideas and wishes for your dream vacation at the Iniakuk Lodge come true.
